MCO Airside 1

Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS) tubular framework supporting the central skylight at the Orlando International Airport terminal, installed by Met-Con, Inc.

Customer: Hensel Phelps / Greater Orlando Aviation Authority

Description: This project involved the enhancement of an airside facility originally constructed in the early 1980s. The scope included expanding the central hub area to accommodate additional airport tenant vendors, installing a skylight exceeding 80 feet in diameter supported by AESS tubular structural steel, and adding smaller skylights throughout the airside wings, each requiring new structural support.

Work at Airside 1 was especially challenging due to prior additions completed without shop drawings or as-built records, requiring careful field verification and coordination throughout construction.
