Replace and Upgrade VAB Siding

Customer: NASA – John F. Kennedy Space Center

Description: Renovation and restoration of the exterior enclosure systems at the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center. The project included the renovation of approximately 635,000 square feet of aluminum siding through recoating and fastener replacement, along with the removal and replacement of nearly 100,000 square feet of siding following lead abatement and substrate recoating.

The scope also involved the removal, lead abatement, recoating, mechanical rework, and reinstallation of 23 massive vehicle access doors measuring up to 40 feet by 112 feet and weighing as much as 160,000 pounds each. In addition, approximately 67,000 square feet of translucent sandwich panel skylights were replaced as part of the facility modernization effort. The project demanded extensive coordination, specialized coatings expertise, and execution within one of the world’s most iconic aerospace facilities.
