MCO Airside 3

A sophisticated, circular Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel (AESS) skylight support system at Orlando International Airport, highlighting precision-engineered steel connections and tubular geometry.

Customer: Hensel Phelps / Greater Orlando Aviation Authority

Description: Enhancement and expansion of the Airside terminal at Orlando International Airport, originally constructed in the early 1980s. The project enlarged the central hub area to accommodate additional airport tenant vendors and passenger amenities while modernizing the facility's architectural character.

A centerpiece of the renovation was the installation of an 80-foot-plus diameter skylight supported by AESS (Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel) tubular framing, creating a dramatic focal point within the terminal.

Additional skylights were incorporated throughout the Airside wings, each requiring carefully engineered structural steel support integrated into the existing structure. The project showcased Met-Con's ability to execute complex renovations within an active transportation facility while delivering both structural performance and architectural excellence.
